Penelope Garica and My Senior Year
Bring Back 2000s Rom-Coms!!
Last week, one of my friends texted and said "I'm doing it. I'm writing my movie script." For the last 5 months or so, me and him have talked about writing movies for the fun of it, but this time, we're actually doing it.
When I sat down to start on a story-board for my movie, I kept coming back to a rom-com concept. I've grown up with these kind of movies, so it only felt right to choose that as my inspiration. One day, I sat down to start writing and I couldn't imagine the story happening anywhere other than the 2000s. Now, I didn't think that because of the aesthetic, I thought that because of the typical 2000s rom-com premise.
In a majority of these movies, there's one factor that I don't think we use enough anymore. In a typical 2000s movie, there's not an unnecessary focus on the crazy situations that led the two people together. Now, don't get me wrong, there are crazy things that happen in 2000s movies for the plot, but the difference is that the reason they were there was to drive the story forward, rather than cause a quick audience reaction. And maybe I'm the only one that thinks that but...I can't help but feel that way.
While I do enjoy a new rom-com, I've found that the art of truly amazing rom-com has been lost in translation. We've lost the days of writing a rom-com for the screen and we've transitioned to re-writing books or other types of literature to become movies. I long for the days of true, written for the screen stories. But, I am filling this little hole in my heart with my own script.
Sorry for the kinda lethargic? rant, but I just miss the vibes and stories of those movies so much :(((
Also, don't read to much into this, it's really just me being nostalgic for no reason.
Xoxo, Rolly
